AquaHeritage

The Human-Water Legacy & Future

Core Focus

AquaHeritage develops a roadmap and replicable educational methodology to activate a Water Knowledge Centre in Lithuania's Molėtai District, fostering community stewardship of freshwater. Combining baseline mapping, co-creation and piloting, the project builds water literacy across schools and communities. Key outputs include piloted laboratory activity models and a curriculum-aligned methodology ready for reuse across BANOS.

Challenge

In the lake-rich Molėtai District communities are increasingly disconnected from the ecosystems that define it. Water-related cultural heritage and traditional knowledge are being lost without documentation, public awareness of source-to-sea impacts is low, and there is no dedicated hub linking heritage, science and personal responsibility. Existing programmes are fragmented and lack a curriculum-aligned methodology.

Key Activities

  • Map regional educational needs and confirm the methodology framework.
  • Run co-creation workshops with teachers and communities.
  • Develop and pilot two to three laboratory activity models.
  • Draft and finalise the Water Knowledge Centre roadmap.
  • Package models for replication and hand over to the Centre.

Communities Engaged

  • Citizen science & community education
